HungerU Tour to stop at VSU

3/26/2014, 10:50 a.m.

The HungerU Tour, a special project of Farmers Feeding the World and the Farm Journal Foundation has included Virginia State University on its Southern United States tour itinerary to spotlight global hunger issues and advocate on behalf of the critical role farmers and agriculture play in addressing these issues.

Hosted by VSU’s College of Agriculture, HungerU will visit campus on Thursday, March 27 and Friday, March 28. Its mobile education exhibit will be parked on University Avenue in front of Foster Hall to enlighten and engage the university community in dialogue on the dilemma of feeding the world’s growing population while farmland is declining steadily.

On Thursday beginning at 9 a.m., student volunteers have been enlisted to participate in a hands-on Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event to bag nutritious meals to combat malnutrition in developing countries worldwide. Besides helping to save lives, this activity also stirs student sensibility and empowers them to take action in their own communities.
