A group of Vernon Johns Jr. High (VJJH) students and chaperones will depart for a ten day European educational tour.

Students will discover Paris, the French Rivera, as well as Italy where participants will make stops in the city of Florence and Rome.

“I’m very excited! I’ve never been outside of the United States. This is a great way to learn about other cultures and languages,” said De’Markus Boyd -- a 9th grade student at VJJH.

Students raised $3,500 to off-set the cost of the trip. In all, five students, one adult and two chaperones are participating in the tour.

“I’d like to make this a yearly event,” said Christina Alegue, French teacher at VJJH who was born and raised in Paris.” Giving students the opportunity to study abroad heightens the learning process,” Alegue added.

This is the second out-of-country educational trip VJJH has held. Last year, VJJH took a group of students and parents to Paris, France and London, England for 10 days.
