— Richmond native Patrick “Praheme” Ricks, writer, director, and producer of “Troop 491: The Adventures of the Muddy Lions,” was once a Boy Scout and now a young filmmaker screening his first full-length feature film at The Byrd Theater on Saturday, May 18.

His company, Praphetic Praductions, LLC, shot the film in Richmond last summer.

Praheme was educated in Richmond Public Schools, graduating from Richmond Community High in 2002. Budding at Richmond Community, he made a video documentary yearbook for his graduating class, which inspired his career path. Praheme is a 2006, cum laude graduate of Howard University where he studied film production. In 2010, he obtained a master’s in film production from Florida State University. Praheme, 28, son of Joseph and Shirley Ricks, is proud to be able to return to his hometown and be a contributor to the community.

“Troop 491: The Adventures of the Muddy Lions” follows Tristan, a naïve adolescent boy coping with life in the inner city. Tristan’s mother enrolls him in the Boy Scouts in an effort to keep him off the streets, but when he witnesses a homicide, the local thug demands the boy’s silence. Tristan learns, with the help of his new Scout friends, that doing the right thing isn’t always easy. Will he follow the code of the streets or will he follow the code of the Scouts? The cast of six boys range in ages 12 to 14.

Praphetic Praductions, LLC teamed up with Tim Reid as a producer and his New Millennium Studios, located in Petersburg. Tim Reid and wife, Daphney Maxwell-Reid, both have roles in the movie as well.

“Troop 491” is a 2012 recipient of the Governor’s Motion Picture Opportunity Fund Grant. The making of the film has had a positive economic impact on the region, employing Virginia actors, crew, studios, restaurants, venues, and office equipment suppliers. In addition, hundreds of extras volunteered to play Scouts, parents, and bystanders.

Tickets to the public screening are $15.00 in advance at www.muddylions.eventbrite.com or $20.00 at the door
