VSP Arrests Suspect in Fatal Hit and Run Crash

6/24/2013, 11 a.m.

Louisa County Sheriff's Office took 30-year-old Kenneth G. Wadford into custody on Monday morning following a tip from the Louisa County community following a fatal hit and run crash on Route 522, Zachary Taylor Highway and Route 719, Days Bridge Road.

Virginia State Police (VSP) asked for the community's help following the crash that killed motorcyclist Oneal F. Newman, 50, and his passenger, Joyce A. Herriot, 53. They were both from Spotsylvania.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. on June 22, state police were called to the scene after the driver of a 2003 GMC Savana 3500 Van struck the rear of a 1988 Kawaskai 1000 motorcycle. The motorcyclist and his passenger were both ejected off of the motorcyle and were both struck as the driver fled the scene. They both died at the scene.

The suspect driver continued traveling southbound on Route 522 before the van broke down and the driver fled on foot into a heavily wooded area. A search of the area was conducted for the suspect with the assistance of the Louisa County Sheriff's Office.

Based on the trooper's investigation, Wadford was operating the van at the time of the crash. Wadford was wanted for two felony counts of hit and run and more charges are expected.
