Some 80 golfers came out to Hunting Hawk Golf Club recently to support Kids’ Chance of Virginia’s 2nd Annual Charity Golf Classic. The local non-profit provides college scholarships to the children of Virginia workers who have been seriously injured or killed in a work related accident.

The event raised over $35,000, which will be used to fund additional scholarships.

“There is definitely a need for this type of program. A severe work related accident is tragic for workers and their families. It alters the course of their lives. Kids’ Chance gives us the opportunity to help make sure their children are getting the education they deserve. It’s great to see the workers’ compensation industry come together to support this event,” said John Goldwater, president of Kids’ Chance of Virginia and CEO of Woodbridge-based workers’ compensation company, BerkleyNet.

Sponsorship for the event came from nearly 50 companies from across the U.S. including All Risks, AMC, AmWins, Appalachian Underwriters, Arlington Roe, Cowles & Connel, Don R. Jensen, INK Underwriting, IPMG, Litigation Solutions, Lucas & Kite LLP, IPMG, Market Financial Group, MarketScout, McKee, Mid Atlantic, PMC, Reid Goodwin LLP, Risk Innovations, Swett & Crawford, Tarheel, tKg, Uhlemeyer, Viacomp and Westrope.

Since it was founded in 2011, Kids’ Chance has provided scholarships for eight Virginia students and anticipates increasing that number in 2013. The Virginia chapter of Kids’ Chance was founded by a group of companies involved in the Virginia workers’ compensation market. The group awards college scholarships to deserving high school graduates whose families have been greatly impacted by work related injuries.
