Anyone 18 and younger can eat for free this summer under the city's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities' Summer Meals for Kids program. The free meals are available by merely walking in at meal time to any of the 120 department's program. No registration is required.

"With this program, there is no reason for any young person to be hungry this summer, said Dr. Norman C. Merrifield, director of the department.

The summer Meals for Kids program is made possible through the department's partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. During the summer of the 2012, the department served approximately 268,000 free meals through the program.

Most of the department's community centers are participating in the program Monday through Friday and are serving breakfast from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and lunch from noon to 1 p.m. The program will continue at community center until Aug. 23, but other locations may choose to serve through Aug. 30.
