RICHMOND There is a new Wawa store in Eastern Henrico, located along Laburnum Avenue.
To mark the occasion, Wawa was joined by government officials, local heroes, and charitable partners for a special grand opening celebration that honors Flag Day, and features a special Flag Day edition of Wawa’s charitable Hoagies for Heroes competition. The grand opening also included a special performance by Mrs. Daisy Ashford, an inspirational singer and proud Army wife, volunteering on behalf of the USO from the Ft. Lee USO Center.
The grand opening celebration kicked-off last Friday. During the event Virginia State Senator Donald McEachin, Virginia Delegate Joe Morrissey, Wawa executives, store associates and Wawa’s mascot, Wally Goose were on hand to share in the festivities and ribbon cutting ceremony, and hand out over 500 American flags.
As part of the celebration, Wawa’s Director of Operations Michele Rupert led the event, giving thanks to everyone in the community who works hard to keep us safe, and recognize Wawa’s newest hyper-local partnership with Great Aspirations Scholarship Program (GRASP) with a check for $1,000. GRASP’s Executive Director Betsy Heggie, and Advisor Paula Buckley, accepted the check on GRASP’s behalf.
“Today it’s exciting to mark a new milestone for our company as we expand in VA, as we also celebrate one of our nation’s biggest milestones—adopting the American flag,” said Wawa President and CEO Chris Gheysens. “We are thrilled to honor our local heroes and the men and women who keep us safe, as celebrate our new partnership with GRASP in the Henrico Community.”
